Virginia's Behavioral Health Commission
The Behavioral Health Commission (BHC) was established in 2021 as a new standing commission of the Virginia General Assembly to study and make recommendations for the improvement of behavioral health services and the behavioral health service system in the Commonwealth. The Commission is composed of 12 state legislators charged with encouraging the adoption of policies that will provide Virginians with access to a full continuum of high-quality and efficient behavioral health services. The BHC also provides ongoing oversight of behavioral health services and the behavioral health service system in the Commonwealth by monitoring and evaluating established programs, services, delivery and payment structures, and the implementation of new services and initiatives in the state. The Commission is charged with developing recommendations for improving such programs, services, structures, and implementation.
